About Re:Born

Re:Born — Giving new life to what still has value.

Who I Am

Hi, I’m Masumi — the creator behind Re:Born.

I was born and raised in Japan, and later moved to the United States after getting married.
At first, navigating the differences between Japanese and American culture felt unfamiliar,
but those moments of uncertainty became a source of learning and inspiration.

I’ve always loved creating things from nothing. To me, imagination is free, and making is endless.

That belief shapes everything I do —
not only in art and handcraft, but also in the way I approach cooking and everyday life.

Through Re:Born and this journal,
I hope to share the quiet passion that lives within me.

What Re:Born Is

Re:Born is an upcycle-focused handmade brand.

work with vintage kimono silk, obi, and time-worn materials that still hold beauty, history, and quiet strength.

Each piece is carefully handcrafted, one by one, allowing the character of the fabric to guide the design.

Nothing here is mass-produced.
Every creation is unique — shaped by time, memory, and intention.

Re:Born blends the grace of the past with a subtle, modern charm, bringing traditional materials into contemporary life
in a way that feels both thoughtful and quietly playful.

Re:Born is my way of honoring mottainai,
the Japanese philosophy of respecting what already exists and giving it new life.

Why I Chose to Write This Journal

I decided to keep this journal as a way to leave a record of my life and work.

I’m not a superstar, and I don’t live an extraordinary life.
I’m simply a mother, a maker, living through ordinary days.

But I wanted to leave something behind —
a quiet trace of what I’ve created, what I’ve learned,
and how I’ve lived with my hands and my heart.

This journal is my way of doing that.
